Tyler Sciacca rose from relative obscurity last season to become one of the best collegiate ballplayers in the Philadelphia area. Now, he's gaining regional recognition.
The senior infielder from Villanova recently was selected to the Preseason All-Big East team, the lone Wildcat included on the list.
Sciacca is a career .314 hitter and is entering his fifth and final year of eligibility with the Wildcats. The Staten Island native was a second team All-Big East selection last year, finishing with a team-leading .359 batting average and 39 RBIs. In total, he either led or was tied for the team lead in nine offensive categories.
Sciacca's rise to the spotlight is impressive, but perhaps even more so considering he missed the entire 2011 campaign with a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
The Wildcats (28-27, 10-17) return 19 players from last year's club and open the season on February 16 against Canisius at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, NC.
